Antoine Semenyo (simply known as “Semenyo”), born on January 7, 2000, in London, England, is a Ghanaian football player who plays as a forward. He underwent trials with London clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham, but was unsuccessful. At the age of 15, after being rejected by Crystal Palace, he briefly considered giving up football; however, persuaded by Dave Hockaday, he joined the youth academy of South Gloucestershire & Stroud College. In 2017, he signed with Bristol City’s youth system, and in 2018, he signed his first professional contract before being loaned to Bath City. During the 2018–19 season, he was loaned to Newport County, where he played as a winger. He helped the team eliminate Leicester City and advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup; after making a total of 32 appearances, he was recalled. In the 2019–20 season, he was loaned to Sunderland. Upon his return, he gradually became a regular starter; in the 2020–21 season, he scored his first goal for Bristol City and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year. In the 2021–22 season, he was named Championship Player of the Month for January, and at the start of the 2022–23 season, his consistent goal-scoring attracted attention from Premier League clubs. In January 2023, he joined a Premier League club for a fee of £10 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. He made his Premier League debut in February and scored his first goal in April. He delivered an outstanding performance during the 2023–24 season. In July 2024, he signed a contract extension until 2029; in the 2024–25 season, he set a personal best with 11 goals, helping his team remain unbeaten for 11 Premier League matches. In July 2025, he signed another contract extension, this time until 2030. He was first called up to the Ghanaian national team in May 2022 and was included in the 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup. In March 2023, during an African Cup of Nations qualifier, he scored a stoppage-time winner against Angola, marking his first official goal for the national team. In 2024, he participated in the African Cup, playing in all group-stage matches, though Ghana failed to advance to the knockout phase.
